What is required?
To reside in The Bahamas for period of more than 90 days, a foreign national must make an application to The Bahamas Government Department of Immigration. Foreign nationals can apply for consideration under one of the following categories.
- Diplomate Identification Card
- Government Contract Workers
- Home-owner Identification
- Permanent Residence
- Work Permit (visa)
- Permit to Reside
The related forms and fees can be found on the Department of Immigration website at Residence And Employment – Bahamas Immigration. However, this process is usually handled by a lawyer, human resources department or local representative. It is strongly advised that local guidance is sought before attempting the application process. Approvals have a minimum processing time of 2 months. Depending on the nature of the application, it can take longer to be approved and require active follow-ups.
